Artist’s Comments:
This painting was created during my first ever attendance at the Mendocino Open Paint Out in September 2014. I suppose the creation of seven paintings in five days is somewhat like childbirth: just a huge amount of work and energy! However, forever afterward the only memories you have are just how much fun the entire experience is. The cold, the work, the fog, the tide coming in around my feet…all these were forgotten in the weeks and months since.
When I saw the sunset at the Headlands Arch (which is an iconic fixture in Mendocino) I was just speechless. Sunsets disappear quickly, and this one was no exception. But the moment which golden rays went right up through the arch is burned in my memory forever. It was magical.
